Jonquel Jones Named 2021 WNBA MVP
Bahamian Forward Earns Prestigious Award
Jonquel Orthea Jones, a Bahamian professional basketball player for the New York Liberty of the Women's National Basketball Association (WNBA), has been named the 2021 Kia WNBA Most Valuable Player. The WNBA announced the honor on August 28, 2021.
Jones, who was born on January 5, 1994, has had a remarkable season, leading the Liberty to a playoff berth. She has averaged 19.4 points, 11.2 rebounds, and 2.8 blocks per game.
Jones is the first Bahamian player to win the WNBA MVP award. She is also the first player from the New York Liberty to earn the honor.
